Woodland Tales Organic Onesie | Snuggle Hunny

Our Promise to You and Your Baby

When you dress or wrap your baby in Snuggle Hunny, you're not just choosing softness — you're choosing transparency, integrity, and a product you can truly trust. At the heart of that trust is our Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification, number CU 1182228.

But what does that actually mean? And why should it matter to you as a parent? Let's break it down.

What is GOTS Certification?

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world's leading standard for the processing of organic fibres — and one of the most rigorous certifications in the textile industry. It covers the entire supply chain, from the farm where the cotton is grown all the way through to the finished product in your hands.

To earn GOTS certification, every step of production must meet strict criteria across two key areas:

  • Ecological requirements: At least 70% of fibres must be certified organic. Harmful chemicals, synthetic dyes, and toxic finishing agents are prohibited. Wastewater must be treated before release.
  • Social requirements: Workers throughout the supply chain must be treated fairly — safe working conditions, fair wages, and no child labour.

GOTS certification is independently verified by accredited third-party certifiers, which means no brand can simply claim it — it must be earned and renewed annually through rigorous audits.

You can verify our certification at any time by searching our certificate number CU 1182228 on the GOTS public database.

Why Organic Cotton Matters for Baby Skin

Baby skin is up to 30% thinner than adult skin, making it far more permeable and sensitive to what it comes into contact with. In the first months of life, a baby's immune system and detoxification pathways are still developing — meaning they are more vulnerable to chemical exposure than we are.

Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically intensive crops in the world. It accounts for roughly 16% of global insecticide use despite covering only 2.5% of the world's farmland. These chemicals don't simply disappear — residues can remain in the finished fabric and come into direct contact with your baby's skin, hour after hour, day after day.

Organic cotton, grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, significantly reduces this chemical burden. And when that cotton is processed under GOTS standards — prohibiting harmful dyes, formaldehyde, and other toxic finishing agents — the result is a fabric that is genuinely safer for sensitive skin.

For babies prone to eczema, rashes, or skin sensitivities, this difference is crucial.

The Environmental Difference

Choosing organic isn't only about your baby — it's about the world they'll grow up in.

  • No synthetic pesticides or fertilisers means healthier soil, cleaner waterways, and safer conditions for farming communities.
  • Organic farming supports biodiversity, allowing ecosystems around cotton fields to thrive.
  • GOTS-certified processing requires responsible wastewater treatment, reducing the toxic load on rivers and communities near textile factories.
  • Lower carbon footprint — organic farming practices typically store more carbon in the soil compared to conventional methods.

Our Journey to Certification

Earning GOTS certification wasn't a box-ticking exercise for us — it was a commitment we made, because we believe that if you're going to make products for babies, you should d it properly.

Our journey involved visiting our factories firsthand, tracing our supply chain from the cotton fields to the finished fabric, and working closely with our manufacturing partners to ensure every step met GOTS standards. We asked hard questions, made changes where needed, and built relationships with suppliers who share our values.

The annual renewal process keeps us accountable. Every year, independent auditors review our entire supply chain — and every year, we recommit to the standard that we believe every baby deserves.

Organic vs. Conventional Cotton: A Quick Comparison

Formaldehyde finishing Commonly used Prohibited under GOTS
Supply chain transparency Often opaque Independently audited end-to-end
Worker welfare Varies widely Required under GOTS social criteria
Skin safety for babies Potential chemical residue exposure Significantly reduced chemical exposure
Environmental impact High — soil, water, biodiversity Significantly lower
